Odoo vs Shopify

Odoo isn't just an online store – it's your entire ERP system

Shopify

An eCommerce platform that then has to be integrated with separate systems for inventory, finance, CRM and business management.

Odoo

A complete business solution where eCommerce, inventory, finance, CRM, purchasing and manufacturing are in the same system with real-time sync.

Three decisive advantages

01

One platform, not ten integrations

Β·

Customer orders sync automatically to inventory, finance and CRM

Β·

No duplicate entries or data discrepancies between systems

Β·

Product information, stock levels and customer data are always up to date everywhere

02

Lower total cost

Shopify

Platform fee + transaction fees + apps for extra features (often €10–50/app/month) + a separate ERP system

Odoo

Pay only for users – all apps are included (eCommerce, inventory, finance, CRM, etc.)

03

Built for growth

Β·

Start with an online store and add modules at your own pace as the business grows

Β·

Especially powerful for B2B with customer-specific prices, credit limits and quotations

Β·

Perfect if you have manufacturing – production orders are generated automatically from eCommerce orders

Is Odoo right for your business?

Shopify is often a good fit when:

Β·

The focus is purely B2C eCommerce and nothing else

Β·

The business is small and the needs are simple

Β·

Advanced internal processes are not relevant

Odoo is often a better fit when:

βœ“

Inventory and logistics are growing and becoming more complex

βœ“

B2B sales are added, with their own prices, quotations and credit limits

βœ“

Finance and the online store need to work together without manual work

βœ“

The cost of maintaining several separate systems is becoming noticeable

Sound familiar?

Most online retailers and retail companies we meet struggle with the same challenges: scattered systems, incorrect stock levels and a growing pile of manual work. Odoo is built to solve exactly that.

Without Odoo

With Odoo

βœ•

Different stock levels in different systems

The online store shows one stock level, the checkout another. Customers buy items that aren't in stock – and complaints increase.

βœ“

One stock level – all channels

Online store, physical store and warehouse share the same real-time stock level. No overlap, no missed orders.

βœ•

Manual order handling

Orders from the online store are copied manually to the warehouse. Time-consuming, error-prone and not scalable.

βœ“

Automated order flow

Orders from the online store automatically trigger picking lists, packing and shipping bookings – without a single manual step.

βœ•

No unified customer view

In-store and online purchases are in separate systems. You don't know who your most profitable customer actually is.

βœ“

360Β° customer view across all channels

See the customer's entire purchase history – online and in store – in one place. The foundation for personalization and loyalty.

βœ•

Bookkeeping that requires manual handling

Sales from stores, the online store and marketplaces have to be booked separately and manually. Time-consuming and error-prone.

βœ“

Automatic bookkeeping from all channels

Every sale is booked automatically, regardless of channel. VAT, currency and accounts are handled without manual entry.
